Along with ten other wonderful projects i was accepted for the next round in the Design for an Eco-friendly Community architectural competition about sustainable bamboo constructions.

With no experience as an architect i have come along way. From believing bamboo resists gravity, to actually understand the materials properties in the real world. I have read a great deal about bamboo, its structural properties and different uses. Bamboo is the steel of nature, and the ways in which it can be used continuously amazes me.

For my project i have worked mainly with woven bamboo. Sophisticated weaving techniques allows you to weave bamboo in all imaginable shapes. For the framework i utilize heat bended bamboo. The structure positioned in the treetops of the jungle is supported by long structural elements of four black bamboo canes connected with steel knobs. The structural elements are mounted in a concrete foundation in order to avoid moist damage to the canes. Several of the elements are inspired by the prototypes presented by Bamboo Lab a research project on bamboo as a building material.

I have tried to investigate more sophisticated ways of handling bamboo in order to showcase its potential as more than a Tiki Hut material but a beautiful element in contemporary architecture.

I recently gave a lecture on Second Life at Building Lab DK. They have been involved in U_Build, a project that unites the construction and the game industry and utilizes user-driven innovation and dialog. Among the collaborators are Mutopia and IO interactive. IO has technology that would be able to support an interactive platform. Technology that is mature in relation to the technology supporting Second Life. However Second Life is still very relevant for the project, especially if you see it in a perspective where technology is allowed to improve. Second Life has an already established user-community and the grid enables interconnected collaboration and almost unlimited technical possibilities. So even though the technology isn’t mature, the grid already has its advantages.

Which has very good intentions on how to use Second Life and its community, they don’t fully succeed though because they do not have something to offer the users in return. Therefore the users do not get involved in the project.To look at a case of an ongoing successful presence in SL that manages to build an active user community we investigated Pontiac. Motorati as Pontiac’s presence in SL is named relies on mainly competitions and customization. Users can customize there own vehicles and compete in races organized by Motorati which is of value for Pontiac in the ideas and user involvement they achieve but also just as general marketing.Adlast we looked into how Keystone Buchard and some of the projects he is involved in mannages to use SL. He is a pioneer in using SL in his field which is very relevant for Building Lab DK.

The new office for Catalyst Marketing Solutions in Hayek will be the new HQ for catalyst and will serve as data center, event and advertising spot for Catalysts customers and everyone else. We will be working on improving the office and adding more functions for the benefit of Catalyst but also for the general visitors and customers of them. Comments and suggestions are always very welcome!

I created a new gallery for Accident Designs and put an image of catalyst there too.

The new server named “The Raft” after the place in the Cyberpunk novel “Snow Crash” by Neal Stephenson has just been set up by the lindens. As in Snow Crash, “The Raft” will consist of a plain ocean with floating platforms, ships etc. scattered around.

I have begun the sketching for our new HQ on our 4096 sq. m. lot.

The old store at Nangrim will be for rent at 1950lindens a week including the old building.

Accident Designs has reserved land on an upcoming sim near infamy - the home of Infamous Designs. Land on this new sim set up by Whisker Ophelia will be available only to quality businesses in Second Life. There will be restrictions as to architecture and to avoid lag. The move will give Accident Designs twice as much land and a new experimenting and creative space is planned for creation.

A new customer of Accident Designs will have there art gallery on this sim aswell.
