Clever ideas & creative functionality.
I recently gave a lecture on Second Life at Building Lab DK. They have been involved in U_Build, a project that unites the construction and the game industry and utilizes user-driven innovation and dialog. Among the collaborators are Mutopia and IO interactive. IO has technology that would be able to support an interactive platform. Technology that is mature in relation to the technology supporting Second Life. However Second Life is still very relevant for the project, especially if you see it in a perspective where technology is allowed to improve. Second Life has an already established user-community and the grid enables interconnected collaboration and almost unlimited technical possibilities. So even though the technology isn’t mature, the grid already has its advantages.
Which has very good intentions on how to use Second Life and its community, they don’t fully succeed though because they do not have something to offer the users in return. Therefore the users do not get involved in the project. To look at a case of an ongoing successful presence in SL that manages to build an active user community we investigated Pontiac. Motorati as Pontiac’s presence in SL is named relies on mainly competitions and customization. Users can customize there own vehicles and compete in races organized by Motorati which is of value for Pontiac in the ideas and user involvement they achieve but also just as general marketing.Adlast we looked into how Keystone Buchard and some of the projects he is involved in mannages to use SL. He is a pioneer in using SL in his field which is very relevant for Building Lab DK.

I logged on to Second Life for the first time in a while and found myself having a new neighbor. Mostly Wicked moved in with a lot of great products and Murder Mystery.
Murder Mystery is a puzzle game, the gameplay is somewhat like Myst. You need to solve a murder case through finding little traces and hints. The game really makes you think. Murder Mystery incorporates a lot of SL’s capabilities and seems to somehow become very “real” through the use of a real avatar profile and more. By far the best game ive seen in SL. Try it out, and please dont read the spoilers. - it spoils the game :)
Tagging Art started the project called Virtual Moves and have gathered a group of artists to develop a row of 4 upcoming exhibitions.
A while ago i spend an evening talking Second Life with Tagging Art. It was one of the most inspiring presentations on Second Life i have been involved in, and Tagging Art were very keen on learning.
Now you can follow the project evolve on the website. I will be guestblogging there too.
Creative functionality will be my main topic in the workshop on Ivaerk 07 Saturday, September 15. 2007 in Forum Copenhagen. See full schedule.
The workshop will give an insight on how you can create a successful project in Second Life by thinking in alternative ways. I am currently planning more specifically what is going to happen. And with the latest criticism of Second Life in Denmark i think i am going to base the workshop on case studies.
Linden Lab recently released secondlifegrid.net. The page answers a lot of the questions businesses wanting to establish a presence in Second Life usually has. And i think it be useful to me in terms of answering initial quetisons from client. I am also glad i can refer people to this page after my workshop tomorrow. Its a big step in helping business understand the opportunities in Second Life.
Some time ago i finished this entrance portal featuring an array of radars and a pathway leading to a teleport. The teleport brings you to the Powermatch dome hidden in the sky. Powermatch will be opening up for its first event tuesday 25th of september. The event will enable recruiting, product presentations and networking. The Powermatch island also features a job greenhouse that enables companies to present open potitions idependently of the events. Contact Heidi Ballinger through IM to participate yourself! In any case pay the place a visit.
